Audiology / hearing screenings for newborns (0-6 months)

Hearing screening is quick, painless and safe for the child. It is usually done when the child is calm or asleep. At the end of the hearing screening, parents get the results directly.

‍Why is it so important to screen newborns for hearing loss?

  • 6 out of every 1000 babies are born with a hearing loss.
  • 4 out of every 100 babies in intensive care are born with a hearing loss.
  • The first 3 years of life are crucial for speech and language development.

Several recent studies demonstrate the importance of early identification of hearing loss in a child. Those diagnosed after the age of 6 months are more likely to have developmental delays.
